Many people will be beginning graduated training programmes towards spring events such as the London Marathon. At Fountain Square we work with athletes during their training programmes to help prevent injuries, picking up on bad habits and weaknesses before they cause problems. We can do this using our running and walking analysis equipment which allows us to pick up pressure changes on foot strike as well as pelvic and foot instability. Spotting potential problems can be the difference between completing an event and not starting it.Read more >>
Having recently had a number of new arrivals at Fountain Square Clinic with Physiotherapists Becky and Kaye adding to their families, I thought it a good time to remind new mums that graduated exercise programmes post-delivery are important to ensure good muscle recovery and prevent future problems. Fountain Square can offer individual exercise advice as well as Group Core and Pilates programmes. Re-activating pelvic floor muscles, diaphragm and abdominal muscles is key to preventing low back problems and stress incontinence.Read more >>

MEET OUR TEAM
Physiotherapy Clinic in Disley
We treat all injuries caused by gardening, falling, poor posture and sports activities, from minor sprains and strains to major ruptures and post-surgery rehabilitation. We see patients from all over Stockport and High Peak.
We have developed injury prevention and performance image enhancing programmes for athletes from many different sports including: athletics, football, cricket, golf, rugby, skiing and martial arts.
Often repetitive injuries take promising athletes out of their sports long before their potential has been achieved. This can be avoided in many cases and we pride ourselves on a comprehensive injury prevention programme. This includes a sophisticated screening programme which has allowed a more scientific approach to injury diagnosis and the study of body mechanics during running, walking and throwing etc. This incorporates computerised movement analysis and foot scanning.
A complete service for you
Besides physiotherapy, our main focus is on injury prevention and rehabilitation. We have a complete team is highly qualified and skilled individuals who together can offer you a service like no other practice in the vicinity of Marple and New Mills. We'll carefully assess you and discuss with you the most appropriate programme to prevent, cure and rehabilitate your injuries.
The Fountain Square Physio practice offers a wide variety of complementary therapy services which include acupuncture, Chinese medicine, massage. lymphatic drainage and art psychotherapy. We also specialise in one to one personal training and have a sophisticated computerised movement analysis suite. We have programmes for runners, golfers, racket players, horse riders, motocross and many other sports.
All treatments are delivered from a modern purpose built clinic, with three large treatment rooms. Our facilities include a fully equipped gymnasium, a movement and running analysis centre and a foot scanner.
Fountain Square Physiotherapy is registered with all major private healthcare companies and we liaise with GPs, Consultants, Hospitals, Solicitors and Insurers to ensure you get a fast and efficient service.
Pre & Post Operative Physiotherapy
The success of your surgery depends largely on what you do in both the pre and post operative stage. Strengthening and mobilising joints pre-operatively often leads to a faster recovery and better outcome post surgery.
Should the post operative stage after orthopedic surgery not be carefully managed with the help of a physiotherapist, you may continue to experience ongoing problems with stiffness, pain, swelling and general lack of confidence with the limb.
As the area may be swollen and somewhat uncomfortable in the early stages, physiotherapy will help you to regain movement, decrease swelling and strengthen the muscles around the joint.
Your physiotherapist will let you know how and when you can return to normal activities including sport.
You will be given an exercise program that is specifically designed to guide you back to your pre-operative activity. Your return to normal activity/sport will depend on the nature of the surgery and the amount of damage that was present.
Core training works on strengthening the deep stomach and pelvic floor muscles that support the lower back, thus avoiding repetitive back problems. The aim of core stability is to provide a stable platform for the rest of the body to work with.
What core strength is all about is often misunderstood. Your core consists of numerous muscles, far too many to list here and their individual functions are infinite. The abdominal group of major muscles commonly seen as a ‘six pack’ are only the start of the core explanation, the minor and internal muscles groups are the hardest to train, and this is where we can help you achieve ultimate core stability.
Regular core stability training protects the spine, decreases chronic back pain and helps improve athletic performance. Group or 1 to 1 sessions are available.
