Sports massage

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to enhance a person who carries out regular physical activity.

Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage; it includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia.  Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma.

Many injuries are brought about by the overuse of certain muscles.

One of the best reasons to have a sports massage is to help your muscles move through their correct range of motion which will therefore result in fewer injuries.

The Benefits of a Sports massage

There are many benefits to sports massage, which include:

  • Flexibility – flexible muscles are more powerful muscles
  • Pain reduction – assists in reducing tension
  • Recovery – reduce recovery time from exercise
  • Prevention – assists in the prevention of injury long term
  • Improves circulation – maintains health of soft tissue

What should I expect?

Our therapists are trained to find your pain threshold, and work just below it whilst advising on your breathing techniques to manage any discomfort.

It usually takes 24-48 hours to feel the full effect of a sports massage after which you should feel comfortable, rejuvenated and refreshed.
