Common Acupuncture Uses
Acupuncture can be used to treat a number of health problems.
It is often used to treat depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, IBS, bowel issues, digestive disorders, menstrual abnormalities, menopause symptoms, infertility.
Pain symptoms such as nerve pain, headaches, migraine, joint pain, physical injury, sports injury, sciatica, bells palsy.
Diabetes, high blood pressure, fatigue, poor sleep & low mood are also common problems which can be treated.
Expert's Opinion of Acupuncture
Experts consider that the acupuncture may in fact have a stimulatory effect on the muscles and nerve tissue, and this explains the benefits felt by many patients following treatment.
Yet another theory posits that pain signals are blocked as a result of the acupuncture and do not reach the brain or spinal cord at one of several gateways.
As most of the designated acupuncture points are located near to or connected to the neural structures, this indicates that acupuncture acts as a stimulus to the central nervous system.
It is also theorised that the acupuncture may stimulate the body to increase its production of endorphins.
Is Acupuncture Safe
When administered by an experienced acupuncturist, acupuncture is a very safe procedure. Because there are no drugs involved, there are no problems with adverse reactions or potential overdoses. Our service is carried out in the clean, safe surroundings of our Stockport physiotherapy practice.
Once they have made a diagnosis, they will begin the treatment, placing needles on the acupuncture points associated with your condition. Jiang will always talk through every aspect of the process and ensure that you are comfortable throughout.
Acupuncture needles are very thin and do not cause the skin to bleed. They are not inserted far into the skin — the depth will depend on the condition being treated. It is normally a pain-free procedure, although some patients may feel a very low level of discomfort.
